Radiology and Coronal Polishing for Working Assistants
We offer two short courses for Dental Assistants in Wilmington and Brunswick County. Taught inside a working dental practice by a licensed dentist, each course covers a specific duty required by North Carolina regulations prior to performing it on a patient.
Coronal Polishing Course
This is a one-day course consisting of an lecture followed by clinical practice using a slow-speed handpiece, a rubber cup, and polishing paste.
You will learn which stains polish off and which do not, how much speed and pressure a tooth can take, and a full-mouth sequence that you can consistently repeat.

Dental Radiology Certification Course
Designed for Dental Assistants seeking to meet North Carolina’s requirements for taking dental X-rays.
This course covers X-ray production, radiation safety, bitewing and periapical techniques, and digital sensor placement. Learn to evaluate image quality, identify common errors, and adjust your technique to capture clear, accurate images.
Who Already Qualifies
If you hold Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) certification or graduated from a Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited dental assisting or hygiene program, North Carolina already lets you take X-rays. You do not need this course.
Everyone Else
State law requires radiology training and a passed equivalency exam before you expose a radiograph. That covers assistants trained on the job and assistants who took X-rays for years in another state.
Next Class
Our next class begins Saturday and Sunday, November 7 and 8. Students must attend both days for course credit.
